Dr. Gerald Diaz, Colonel, USAF, (Ret.) served in the USAF for 27 years. Dr. Diaz received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Nebraska. Colonel Diaz served as Head, Department of Mathematical Sciences, U.S. Air Force Academy. He led the development of an optimized budget process for Air Force Space Command to build their 25-year, $100B Strategic Plan. In 2004, Dr Diaz was deployed to the U.S. Embassy in Iraq where he directed the Office of Strategic Analyses. In his last assignment with the Air Force, Colonel Diaz was the Chief Analyst and the Director of Resource Analysis for the Air Force Studies and Analyses Agency in the Pentagon. In this position, he led the development of the analytic methodology used by the Air Force for their Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process and identified critical shortfalls/excesses in the Air Force's personnel system that helped shape a reduction of 40,000 personnel. Dr. Diaz is a Fellow and currently manages the Institute's Operations Analysis Division.
